Ireland is not on track to meet any of its 2020 renewable energy targets. Learn what steps you can take to make a difference.

In 2018 Ireland was 27th out of 28 EU countries for progress towards the 2020 overall renewable energy target. Ireland’s low share of RES-H is the biggest reason for our poor progress.

At least 16% of gross final energy consumption in Ireland must come from renewables by 2020. This is a mandatory target under the EU Renewable Energy Directive. It is commonly referred to as “the overall RES target”.

What can YOU do?

  • Then consider renewable energy sources such as a heatpump or solar panels.
  • When replacing your car, consider going electric.
  • Get a BER rating for your home to understand what upgrades could be done to improve your energy rating.
  • Insulate your home. This could include increased attic, wall and floor insulation.
  • Walk, cycle, use public transport or carpool where possible.
  • Conversations with your family, friends and work colleagues can have a big impact. Help them make better energy decisions.
  • Then consider renewable energy sources such as a heatpump or solar panels.

Reducing energy waste is key to reducing your impact. The less energy you use, the less energy that needs to be produced in the first place. So efficiency first!
